Autumn festival around the world

I will introduce to you a festival of Mexico. The festival is called “the day of the dead”. It is held on November 2. You may feel sad when you see a word “dead”. But it is not sad festival.

It is similar to Japan's Bon festival. People comfort their ancestors decorating their graves with flowers, sugar candy skulls, candied fruit and pumpkins like this (→). Decoration of graves depends on each family. So you can enjoy the difference when you go to Mexico then.

The sugar skulls have various types and are colorful and cute. They are sold in many places of Mexico for the festival. This site shows you how to cook sugar candy skulls. Try to cook, if you like it.

Our group is going to introduce a festival of Spain. The festival is human castle or “castles” in Catalan. The people of Catalonia build human castles. They believe that the construction of human castles demonstrates teamwork, patient and success. This festival is traditional and began in the 17th century.

Teams try to build the highest and most difficult castle against other team. The highest castle so far is 13m, which is as high as ten human stories in height.

If you click here, you can understand how to build human castles and see many kinds of human castles each team.
